Meeting Farhad was a blessing. I had just become an above the knee amputee after years of fighting a chronic infection. I was not sure what would become of me. Farhad introduced me to my prosthetist and for the last 8 years has been with me literally every step of the way. He not only taught me how to walk again but helped me fight to overcome every setback and regain my independence. It is not just me that he helped. He founded an amputee support group that has more than 100 members. He created a fundraising event that assists amputees in getting the medical care and equipment that we need. He follows us, teaches us how to get up when we fall, he cares about us, and is there to teach us how to care about ourselves when we have reached our lowest point. And in his “spare” time he teaches the next generation of physical therapists and therapy assistants, works with Ukrainian amputees who come here to get treatment unavailable in their country, travels to the Ukraine and other countries to work with amputees, and teaches amputees to be Certified Peer Visitor who assist new amputees through their first year. Farhad is not only a talented physical therapy, but a caring and devoted friend. He helps us to not only recover our lost mobility, but to be our best selves.
